CAS International (Comité Anti Stierenvechten) is the biggest organization in the world which works exclusively on the abolition of bullfighting and cruel fiestas (festivals) during which bulls and other animals are tortured. Together with our colleague organizations, we want to end this animal abuse as soon as possible.

Bullfighting
Bullfighting is one of the most cruel forms of animal abuse. Every year, more than 250,000 bulls and cows are tortured and killed worldwide during bullfights and similar events.
Also during fiestas ('village festivals'), tens of thousands of bulls and other animals are severely maltreated.

No bullring in Kenya!
Recently CAS International was informed on the plan to build a bullring in Western Kenya (Africa). In this part of Kenya (especially in Kakamega) bullfights are already organized in the fields. CAS International already campaigned against these bullfights, as well as several Kenyan animal welfare organizations. In December 2008, they managed to prevent a bullfight that was about to be organized in the Kenyan capital Nairobi, also because these bullfights are actually forbidden by the Kenyan animal protection law.
In Kenya, they do not organize bullfighting Spanish style (with a matador killing bulls), but they organize fights between two bulls, surrounded by hundreds or even thousands of elated men with sticks. On the video below, you can see a bullfight in Kenya. In this video, you cannot see that the animals are drugged, that their horns are sharpened, etc., but our Kenyan colleague organizations informed us that this does happen.
In this video, you can see several politicians who support and promote bullfighting. The Minister of Tourism says he will do his best to build a stadium and the Kenya Tourism Trust Fund will pay almost € 110,000 to finance this stadium. MP Boni Khalwale (who himself seems to own 'fighting bulls') claims that these bullfights will attract tourists and that this tradition should be honoured.
CAS International contacted several Kenyan animals protection organizations and now we are campaining with ANAW (Africa Network for Animal Welfare) and KSPCA (Kenya Society for the Protection & Care of Animals) to prevent the bullring from being built. As CAS International, we would also like to emphasize that not móre tourists will go to Kenya if bullfights are organized in this bullring. On the contrary, foreign tourists want to see animals in the wild and do not want to see bullfights! We also stressed this in letters to the editor to several Kenyan media.
