Together with our colleague organizations, we want to end this animal abuse as soon as possible.

Bullfighting
Bullfighting is one of the most cruel forms of animal abuse. Every year, more than 250,000 bulls and cows are tortured and killed worldwide during bullfights and similar events.
Also during fiestas ('village festivals'), tens of thousands of bulls and other animals are severely maltreated.

Stop the cruelties against cows in El Viso, Spain!

El Viso city (Córdoba, Andalucía, Spain) has a celebration every year at the end of July called 'Suelta de Vaquillas ('releasing the cows') organized to honour the catholic saint Santa Ana.
This celebration is not much different from the fiestas celebrated in the rest of Andalucia, where the heifers are let run loose. In 2007, of the 6 heifers released, only 2 returned to the farmyard on their own. One of the other four died in the streets by overexertion and the harassment that she suffered, another was stabbed to death because she had a fracture in her leg because of the many falls she endured in the streets and the remaining two simply were so exhausted that they could not move anymore.
But the most shocking thing about this cruel fiesta is that the city's Board of Tourism has declared this a 'Celebration of Tourist Interest'. Our Spanish colleague organization ASANDA has asked the Bureau of Tourism to withdraw this declaration.

I have read on Asanda's website about 'celebrations' in El Viso, which you call the International Tourist Festival. These celebrations are cruel and inhumane. It is highly inappropriate that your city would consider these to be cultural values. I support ASANDA and I understand that, as Andalusians, they feel embarrassed for all this cruelty towards animals. I will inform all of my friends about the way in which the Ministry of Tourism intends to promote tourism in Andalusia.
