Bullfighting
Bullfighting is one of the most cruel forms of animal abuse. Every year, more than 250,000 bulls and cows are tortured and killed worldwide during bullfights and similar events.
Also during fiestas ('village festivals'), tens of thousands of bulls and other animals are severely maltreated.

Protest against cruel fiesta in Beas de Segura (Spain)
Ever year in April, a cruel fiesta called San Marcos Fiesta takes place in Beas de Segura (Jaén, Andalucía), during which several bulls are dragged through the streets with ropes. The local government has issued compulsory measures for the treatment of the bulls, but on photos and videos that were made by our Spanish colleague organization ASANDA in 2008, you can see that the bulls are still heavily abused and maltreated.
The animals are thrown into the river, they are forced to fight each other, when the bulls run away, people are pulling the rope so the bulls fall down, they pull the tails of the bulls, etc.

Global translation of the letter to the regional government:
I have learnt of the cruelty and ill-treatment suffered by the bulls used in the fiesta of the "roped bulls" in the San Marcos Fiestas in Beas de Segura (Jaén). I also know of the compulsory measures issued by the Local Government to the Town Council of Beas de Segura to be applied to the 2008 Fiesta and the subsequent fiestas. I see from the graphic material gathered by ASANDA that several of those measures are still not being implemented or not being implemented properly, so that the animals are still being abused (animals are thrown into the river, confrontations are caused between animals, ropes are used to make them fall when they are running at full tilt, their tails are twisted, etc.).
I would like to remind you that it is your duty to ensure compliance with the Law on Animal Protection and to put an end to practices like this.
