CAS International
CAS International (Comité Anti Stierenvechten) is the biggest organization in the world which works exclusively on the abolition of bullfighting and cruel fiestas (festivals) during which bulls and other animals are tortured. Together with our colleague organizations, we want to end this animal abuse as soon as possible.

Bullfighting
Bullfighting is one of the most cruel forms of animal abuse. Every year, more than 250,000 bulls and cows are tortured and killed worldwide during bullfights and similar events.
Also during fiestas ('village festivals'), tens of thousands of bulls and other animals are severely maltreated.

Achievements
Anti bullfighting organizations such as CAS International have accomplished many results in the struggle against bullfighting and cruel fiestas. Especially in the last few years, the aversion to bullfighting has grown, also in the bullfighting countries. More and more people work hard to end these cruelties. A few successes:
- Bullfighting in the Spanish region of Catalonia was abolished on 28 July 2010 by the Catalan parliament. From 1 January 2012, it is not allowed to organize bullfights in this region anymore. In the Barcelona bullring, still 100 bulls a year are tortured and killed. This will end in 2012!
- Another region in Spain that banned bullfighting are the Canary Islands. They banned bullfighting in 1991. Unfortunately, cockfights are still allowed on the Islands, which are forbidden in the rest of Spain.
- More and more municipalities in the bullfighting countries declare themselves 'Anti Bullfighting Municipality and Friend of the Animals', thanks campaigns of colleague organizations, some of them with the help of CAS International. The 'score' in September 2010 is: 94 municipalities.

- mOne of the 17 autonomous regions of Spain already banned bullfighting: The Canary Islands. They banned bullfighting in 1991, although sadly they still allow cockfighting, which is banned in the rest of Spain.
- The majority of the inhabitants of all 8 bullfighting countries are opposed to bullfighting, according to opinion polls carried out by independent companies such as Gallup/Investiga and DATUM (commissioned by CAS International). Thanks to campaigns of anti bullfighting organizations such as CAS International, more and more people turn their backs on bullfighting.
- Since bullfighting becomes less popular in the bullfighting countries, the bullfighting industry tries to export this bloody business to other countries. Thanks to many international protests, they did not manage to expand bullfighting to countries like Cuba, Russia, Kazachstan, Poland and Iraq.
- Thanks to lawsuits, political lobby, petitions and similar campaigns activities, municipalities, madatores and others who broke the law by performing illegal acts of bullfighting have been penalized. For example, in Portugal, matadores have been convicted for killing bulls in the bullring. This is illegal in Portugal, except in some border towns with Spain such as Barrancos. Normally, bulls are killed after Portuguese bullfights, out of the sight of the public.
- CAS International made sure that Dutch travel agencies do not promote or sell tickets to bullfighting anymore.
- Several sponsors of bullfighting stopped sponsoring these atrocities - such as Mazda and KLM - on request of CAS International and others.
- In France, several bullfighting schools are closed down, like the ones in Istres and Saint-Remy de Provence.
- The number of bullrings has been reduced over the recent decades, often because of lack of public interest in bullfighting. For instance, big cities have reduced the number of bullrings they used to have until only one, such as Madrid and Barcelona. In some cases, even the last bullring of a big capital has been closed, such as in Caracas, Venezuela. In other cities and towns, such as Lloret de Mar and Girona (Spain) and Cascais (Portugal), the last bullrings have been demolished. In the Spanish autonomic regions of Asturias, Galicia and Catalonia, they only have two bullrings left each.
