CAS International
CAS International (Comité Anti Stierenvechten) is the biggest organization in the world which works exclusively on the abolition of bullfighting and cruel fiestas (festivals) during which bulls and other animals are tortured. Together with our colleague organizations, we want to end this animal abuse as soon as possible.

Bullfighting
Bullfighting is one of the most cruel forms of animal abuse. Every year, more than 250,000 bulls and cows are tortured and killed worldwide during bullfights and similar events.
Also during fiestas ('village festivals'), tens of thousands of bulls and other animals are severely maltreated.

Bullfighting in Latin America
Bullfights during or after which bulls are killed also takes place in Peru, Colombia, Mexico, Venezuela and Ecuador. Bullfighting was introduced in these countries during the Spanish colonization.
Every year, tens of thousands of bulls are killed in these countries. Mexico is considered the most important bullfighting country in Latin America (perhaps even in the world) and in this country, most bulls are killed. Some well known bullrings in Latin America are La Monumental (Mexico City, Mexico), Acho (Lima, Peru), La Monumental (Aguascalientes, Mexico), Santa María (Bogotá, Colombia), La Monumental (Quito, Ecuador) and La Monumental (Valencia, Venezuela).

Most bullfights in Latin America take place during our winter (November-February), but also during the rest of the year, bulls are tortured and killed during bullfighting and cruel fiestas. Spanish, French and Portuguese bullfighters travel to Latin America in winter, to participate in bullfights. This is because there are no bullfights in Europe during winter time.
Not only the local inhabitants, but also tourists go to see bullfights in Latin America, especially in Mexico. For example, in the northern American state California, the bullfighting industry advertises for these bullfights.
The following bullfights are organized in Latin America:
1. Corridas de Toros: bullfights with 4-6 years old bulls.
2. Novilladas. These are bullfights with 3-4 year old bulls.
3. Becerradas 'profesionales': bullfights with bulls younger than 3 years.
4. Rejoneos/corridas de rejones: bullfighting on horse.
5. Capeas: 'amateur' bullfighters teasing young bulls or cows with capes.
6. Bombero toreros/toreros cómicos: bullfights with little people and/or clowns.
7. Recortadores: bullfighters avoiding bulls with dodges or jumps, without capes.
