CAS International
CAS International (Comité Anti Stierenvechten) is the biggest organization in the world which works exclusively on the abolition of bullfighting and cruel fiestas (festivals) during which bulls and other animals are tortured. Together with our colleague organizations, we want to end this animal abuse as soon as possible.

Bullfighting
Bullfighting is one of the most cruel forms of animal abuse. Every year, more than 250,000 bulls and cows are tortured and killed worldwide during bullfights and similar events.
Also during fiestas ('village festivals'), tens of thousands of bulls and other animals are severely maltreated.

Cruel fiestas with cattle
Especially bulls, cows and calves are the victims of cruel fiestas. They are tortured by local inhabitants (and also tourists) in several manners. A few examples:
- Becerrada amateur: 'bullfight' where bulls younger than 3 years old are maltreated by an exalted mob. They often beat and kick the young animals, pull their tails and stab them with several weapons. These events take place in municipalities such as Algemesí (Valencia, Spain). Young bulls are severely tortured to death in this town.
- Corraleja (Colombia): a bull in a bullring or stadium is teased by a crowd of mostly drunk people. Accidents often occur and people get hurt (sometimes die). They are very informal and wild and to provoke the bull people use capotes, banderillas, and all sorts of objects such as umbrellas. Sometimes horses are also used.
- Encierros (in Catalonia and Valencia: Correbous): bull runs, where several bulls are chased together through the streets by a crowd of people. The best known example are the Running of the Bulls in Pamplona (Navarra, Spain), where every year in July, bulls are chased through the streets to the bullring during several days, to be killed during a bullfight the same evening. During encierros, both young bulls (novillos or becerros) and adult bulls can be used, and they do not always end up killed in or outside a bullring.

- Toro de Agua (in Catalonia and Valencia: Bous al Mar): bulls are chased into the water and dragged out of it again and again, until they collapse from exhaustion. Often the animals die by drowning, a heart attack or a different cause. This kind of events is organized in municipalities such as Dénia (Valencia, Spain).
- Toro de Cuerda/Toro Ensogado/Toro Enmaromado: 'rope bull'. A bull is dragged through the streets on a long rope, tied to his horns, head or neck. Sometimes the bulls are even dragged through houses, surrounded by an exalted mob. The public tries to abuse the bulls in several manners. At the end, the bull may be shot or stabbed to death. This sort of events take place in municipalities such as Beas de Segura (Andalucía, Spain).
- Toro de Fuego/Toro Embolado (in Catalonia and Valencia: Bou Embolat): 'fire bull'. A metal device is fixed on the horns of the bull, with balls of tar, or a different flammable material, which is set on fire. Regularly, people also throw fireworks towards the bull, or they are placed on the device instead of the balls. The bull panics and starts running, stirring up the fire even more. Sometimes, the villagers rub mud on the neck and head of the bull, but this does not always prevent him from being severely burned. These 'fire bulls' are banned in many regions of Spain, but are common during fiestas in many villages in the Valencia region, and in municipalities such as Medinaceli (Soria, Castilla y León). Competitions between teams to see which team can lit the fire faster can be seen in this region. If they are not needed anymore, the bulls may be killed.
