Below you will find an overview of the most important news items of December 2011:

-    On 5 and 7 December proponents and opponents of bullfighting presented their arguments in favour of or opposed to an abolition of bullfighting to the Congress of Mexico City. The arguments of the representatives of animal welfare organizations in favour of a ban were well received by the members of the Commission Public Administration. Our Mexican colleagues have presented their ideas and arguments in Congress with videos, photographs and studies which show the nature of the bull and it’s suffering during the bullfight. The members of the commission were also informed about the process that has lead to the ban on bullfighting in Catalonia and about the future of the bullring in Mexico City, as exemplified by the reuse of the bullring Las Arenas in Barcelona. -    The Venezuelan Supreme Court has annulled the regulation about Bullfights (1988) in the capital Caracas. The bullfighting regulation is opposed to a law which states that Venezuela is required to protect all living species. During a bullfight, not only bulls are being harmed, but horses as well.
