For this report, Anna Wyrwik travelled to Madrid, where she attended a bullfight at the Las Ventas arena and spoke with various stakeholders, including bullfighters, students at a bullfighting school, and spectators.

The article provides a detailed description of how a bullfight unfolds and the role that tradition, culture, and emotion play in it. At the same time, our critical perspective is clearly represented in the article. We emphasise that an increasing number of Spaniards are turning against bullfighting and point to the animal suffering that we consider inherent to the practice.
We believe that public opinion in Spain is changing, particularly among younger generations. We argue that cultural traditions are not static and that social development requires a reassessment of practices that seriously harm animals. The article also highlights the use of public funds and European agricultural subsidies in sustaining the bullfighting sector.

In this way, it presents different perspectives side by side, clearly showing that the debate about the future of bullfighting in Spain is very much ongoing.
